Hebrew Today Newpapers (11.01.2006)
Liora Tzadka – www.hebrewtoday.com   Good Times is a creative publishing company that produces fun and educational newspapers in easy Hebrew and English for local and export markets.   Background Liora Tzadka, owner of “Good Times” publishing, made the transition from social work to children's newspaper publishing early on in her career. After spending some time in the public sector she and her husband decided to make a career change, primarily for economic reasons. It was not easy to leave a field she believed in. She worked as a volunteer in the social work field to ease her adjustment. Twenty years after the change, she feels enormous satisfaction and pride in the enterprise she built with her husband Yigal.  Liora relates that she is pleased that she went into the business at a relatively young age before she held serious management positions and before she knew exactly what she wanted to do. Her major tip for women considering going into business is not to be afraid to plunge in and work very hard.   Liora learnt at home not to be afraid and to go with your gut feelings. She comes from a family where everyone is self employed. She has three  older brothers each of whom has his own business. Her family supported the idea of going out on her own.  The Road to Success   “Good Times” is a business that includes four staff (aside from the two owners) and a number of freelancers. It produces an attractive colorful magazine called "Hebrew Today” for teaching English to Israeli children from the 4th grade to the Bagrut or matriculation level. It is distributed to schools around the country. In addition it produces Yanshuf  - a newspaper in easy Hebrew aimed at 2nd to 6th grades. The newspaper comes with a CD so the reader can hear the Hebrew stories being read as well as a dictionary pamphlet in English and French.  It is well regarded by teachers and the education department. Stories are carefully and appealingly written with no violent content. It is distributed in Israel as well as to overseas markets – the major markets are the USA and France. The company has launched a website in English and Hebrew which supports the papers. Liora relates she and her husband battled over the decision to launch the site as they were concerned that it would funnel away readership. Now the conclusion is that the site complements the newspapers.   Future Plans   Liora feels that despite their successes in the overseas markets, they must pursue these global markets more vigorously. "There is enormous interest in Hebrew language learning and there is a thirst for new teaching materials and we have to be in as many schools as possible." Contacts that the Lila community may have in organizations and schools overseas would be of interest to us.
